A Delta Air Lines passenger allegedly went on a violent rampage in the aisles and cabin of a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Minneapolis on Wednesday.

A security source told CNN on Friday that passengers noticed 21-year-old Jeremiah Cady acting erratically during the flight and alerted flight attendants.

Cady is accused of repeatedly kicking one flight attendant, and punching and biting another flight attendant in the head and face as they tried to subdue him, said a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation.

The violent episode on Delta Flight 8955 was one of the “most violent and disturbing” that airline has encountered in its history, Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement.

The flight’s captain safely diverted the flight to Salt Lake City International Airport on Wednesday, and Cady was arrested upon arrival.

Delta has not identified Cady, and Cady’s attorney and representative did not respond to CNN’s requests for comment.

Delta added new domestic flight restrictions, including a ban on smoking, after another incident last month in which a passenger allegedly refused to leave a plane during a fight over wearing headphones and was subdued by fellow passengers.

Delta said Wednesday that Cady’s behavior was “completely out of character” for him.
