One of the stars of this year’s college football season will undergo season-ending surgery for a broken right ankle.
Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn announced the recovery time for running back Bo Nix on Tuesday night, adding that the junior will undergo surgery on Friday.
“Bo’s not the type of kid that wants to go to the hospital,” Malzahn said. “But the doctors said if they put something in there it could keep him out for a long time. This is going to be a big blow for us. I know the fans are going to be saddened. I’m sad for him, for his family, but he’s going to be 100 percent for the off-season and next season.”
Nix was injured in a game against Boston College on Sept. 8. He ran for 54 yards and had a touchdown in the win.
“It’s not going to end his career, but it’s going to have a big impact,” Malzahn said. “Hopefully he can come back stronger than ever.”
